It’s Showtime hosts spoke up regarding their opinions on the ongoing debate about whether or not there should be a separate LGBTQ restroom.

An ongoing debate has been going on with regards to the controversial news about a Trans-woman named Gretchen Custodio Diez was violently removed from the women’s toilets last August 13 at a mall in Quezon City.

Prior to the recent news, Comedian Vice Ganda believed we can all live peacefully with the established restaurant, but the star has changed beliefs and is now convinced that the solution to the ongoing debate is that the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and other gender or sexual identities (LGBTQ+) should have a separate public, gendered restroom.

“For as long as marunong tayo rumespeto ng kapwa, hindi magiging isyu kung saan tayo papasok. Pero since isyu siya, parang nag-iisip ako — dapat yata may CR (comfort room) na ‘yung mga LGBT,” the star stated. “Ba’t hindi niyo na lang bigyan ng sariling CR ang LGBT para lahat may safe place?” Vice said.

Vice Ganda, who identifies as a gay man, shared that in using public restrooms, there tends to be mutual “discomfort” when some LGBTQ+ individuals use a traditionally assigned restroom.

To further cement the star’s belief, Vice talked about mutual discomfort with the LGBTQ+ individuals who use the traditionally assigned comfort room: “If men feel that they are unsafe, if women feel unsafe, and [the] LGBT community feels unsafe, then create a safe place for everyone.

Vice Ganda continued to address this issue by calling on the government to pass the SOGIE (sexual orientation and gender identity and expression) bill and stated that the government should: “Create a safe place for everyone. Kung hindi kami matatanggap, bigyan niyo kami ng CR. Gusto lang po namin umihi at dumumi.”

On the other hand, Vice Ganda’s friend and co-host Anne Curtis did not share the same opinion. The actress mentioned her opinion that she feels that Trans-women are still women that is why she does not feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

“Wala, okay lang. Babae ‘yung tingin ko sa kanya, kaya okay lang sa akin. Hindi ako natatakot, hindi ako nako-conscious, kasi never papasok sa isip ako na baka silipan ako nito o may gawing masama,” she said.
