The ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and Enhanced Community Quarantine has disrupted the day-to-day routine of many, as everyone was forced to stay at home. Thankfully many utilities and providers have been understanding about the general public’s plight and have given month-long extensions until the quarantine period passes. One of them includes one of the country’s water providers Manila Water.

Last March 17, Manila Water released an announcement on their Facebook page that they will be providing 3 things:

  1. Adequate water supply during the duration of the quarantine, except during emergency cases like repair and maintenance.
  2. Extension of 30 days for the payment of bills.
  3. Online payment channels as an alternate payment method, which includes online banking, Cash, and PayMaya.

Average Billing System

On March 21, Manila Water released another statement on Facebook that said that they will be adopting an “average billing” system during the quarantine period. This means that every household’s water bill will be based on their average consumption for the past 3 months in line with the policy of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage Systems (MWSS). Since then, it has announced that they’ve “temporarily suspended meter reading and billing activities since March 17, 2020 until further notice”.

The difference in the average billing versus the actual consumption will then be reflected in the next billing statement. Manila Water will also revert back to their normal read-and-bill system once the government gives the go signal to end the quarantine.

The 30-day extension on bills payment, which was announced on March 17, still takes effect. For questions and concerns, you can contact Manila Water through their Facebook or Twitter accounts.
