Social media app TikTok has taken the world by storm. The Philippines is no exception, especially now that everyone is stuck at home and bored during quarantine. However, it seems that not everyone is happy about this surge in the use of TikTok in our country. Earlier today, it was announced that the Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance would be banned in the Philippines due to “overuse”. The amounts of downloads of the app in the Philippines within the span of the 2-week enhanced community alone has apparently multiplied by 5000%.

While a lot of people have come to find joy and entertainment on the app, with one user describing it as a “sweet escape from the worries in our life”, a spokesperson explained that too many Filipinos are currently using TikTok that it has become an “obsession”. “This is not what this time in our life is supposed to be about,” the spokesperson adds. “People have been fixated on creating useless content on the app that is doing absolutely nothing beneficial for their lives.”

Are you a TikTok user? Do you agree that the app should be banned for this reason? Sound off below!
