San Juan City Science High School

San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora announced that the high school would be partnering with Xavier School in converting the building for the use of suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients. They aim to house 100 beds for the patients.

“We are doing this to make sure that our COVID-19 patients – in case the hospital cannot handle the volume anymore – we’ll have a separate area, a field hospital, so to speak, for them and also for our PUIs (patients under investigation), we will already immediately isolate them and quarantine them,” Zamora said.

While the national government discouraged using schools as quarantine facilities, local government units are still permitted to do so granted they gain approval from the Department of Education.

Philsports Complex and Rizal Memorial Sports Complex

Philippine Sports Commission chairman William “Butch” Ramirez confirmed the planned conversion of the 2 sports complexes into COVID-19 facilities this Sunday.

Ramirez also shared that the Department of Public Works and Highways has already sent its staff to the Philsports Complex for assessment while they are due to assess the RMSC next week.

He assures that both facilities are newly-renovated, fully air-conditioned, and have a steady water supply. And according to the chairman, athletes will not be put at risk as most have already left for their homes.

“These times call for unselfish patriotism,” Ramirez said. “Let us step up to the plate, so to speak. This is us, the sporting community stepping up to bat.”
