Shark Selfie - Study: Selfies are 5 times deadlier than shark attacks

If you like taking selfies, you might want to think twice.

According to a study by India’s Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, at least 259 people died taking selfies around the world between October 2011 and November 2017. During the same period, 50 people were killed by sharks.

Another interesting fact is that young men make up a third of deaths while taking selfies.

Some of these deaths are caused by drownings, crashes, falls, or shooting accidents.

India holds the record for the most selfie-related deaths, with 159 recorded. This is more than half of the world total. It has become so alarming that the country has set up “no selfie zones,” with 16 of them in Mumbai alone.

In 2014, Time magazine ranked Makati as the selfie capital of the world, with “258 selfie-takers per 100,000 people.”

Be careful when taking photos!
