Manila City’s 48-hour “hard lockdown” in Sampaloc district ended Saturday night after recording 157 arrests of violators.

The lockdown was initially ordered “for purposes of disease surveillance, verification or testing and rapid risk assessment in relation to COVID-19″ following a surge of COVID-19 cases in the area.

The Sampaloc Police Station reported a total of 157 individuals who violated the full lockdown. They were held in the district’s covered courts that were turned into makeshift detention centers for lockdown offenders.

Despite the number of violations, Mayor Isko Moreno expressed satisfaction at the implementation of the lockdown.

Bukas ay babalik na po kayo muli at magagamit nyo po muli ang inyong mga quarantine pass,” said Moreno in his online briefing.
