QC Mayor Joy Belmonte has signed Executive Order No. 26, Series of 2020 which punishes people who discriminate COVID-19 patients and frontliners in Quezon City.

This prohibits acts of discrimination to people who are suspected of having COVID-19 (PUIs and PUMs), healthcare workers, frontliners, and service workers. This order also protects the families of these people mentioned.

“Discrimination has no place in our city, especially during this time of crisis. We must put a stop to this once and for all,” the QC Mayor said. She also said that violators will be penalized under Sec. 9 (a) of Republic Act 11332, Data Privacy Act, Cybercrime Prevention Act and the Revised Penal Code, depending on their actions.

Belmonte said that this order will be effective until President Duterte lifts the state of public health emergency in the country. The ordinance also states that public officials should not refuse assistance to PUI, PUM, COVID-19 infected persons or any person suspected of exposure to the virus.
