While Japanese fruit-importing company Diamond Star has committed to importing 1 million kilos of said mangoes, another million kilos of surplus remains a problem for farmers. They worry that the unsold excess will simply be left to rot. Local processors have already dropped their buying prices in order to ease the problem.

On the government’s part, the Department of Agriculture has launched the Metro Mango Marketing Program. The program intends to aid the farmers by selling at least 1 million kilos of mangoes. They will be sold at a discounted price of P20 to P50 per kilo. You may find them at the following locations:

  • Bureau of Plant and Industry, Malate, Manila
  • Muntinlupa City Hall
  • Paranaque City Hall
  • Waltermart North Edsa, Quezon City from 9am-9pm
  • Waltermart Makati from 9 am to 9 pm
  • Waltermart Pasay from 9 am to 9 pm
