After a spike of novel coronavirus cases in Malaysia, 215 Filipinos were asked to self-quarantine after an attendee of a religious event tested positive for COVID-19.

A social media post by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) says “Malaysia had reported a sudden spike in their COVID-19 cases, with most of these patients having links to the cluster who attended the ijtimak tabligh gathering in the Jamek Sri Petaling Mosque.”

The attendee, who is a resident of Lanao del Sur, tested positive for the virus while admitted in Cotabato.

The NCMF also says that these 215 Filipino attendees mostly came from BARMM. “We are urging EVERYONE who attended the event in Malaysia, or who had contact with those who attended, to coordinate with the DOH or with the BARMM-MOH,” the post adds.

With this news, the mayor of Cotabato City has also placed the entire city on starting Tuesday, March 17.
