When in El Nido, it’s best to indulge in a wide variety of seafood freshly caught from the waters of Palawan. Fortunately, one of our favorite seafood restaurants in Manila has finally arrived there! The Red Crab Alimango House now serves fresh catches with crabs as their specialty (of course) at the Lio Tourism Estate in El Nido. It freshly opened in April 2019 and is currently the only seafood restaurant in the area.

Just like how they do it in the Metro, The Red Crab Alimango House in El Nido serves portions for large groups. There’s no live seafood on display, but there’s al fresco dining and a bar, which makes the restaurant the ideal place for lunch and dinner with some booze. Just imagine getting messy with your hands on flavorful crabs while eating in the relaxing ambiance of Lio and hearing the sound of the El Nido waters!

For starters, we had the cheesy Palawan Baked Mussels (Php295), crispy and juicy Chicken and Bangus Inasal (Php695) and the flavorful Calamari Pasta Negra (Php375). All of this was truly appetizing and teased our tastebuds for more. The Pulpo Sisig aka squid sisig (Php275) is also a must-try, especially because it is only available at The Red Crab El Nido branch.

My personal favorite is the Salted Egg Seafood Bucket (Php695). It contains mixed seafood, such as shrimps, mussels, and more drowned in finger-licking salted egg sauce. Yum! They also have options for other sauces, such as butter garlic, chili cajun, and crab roe adobo. You can also get your basket filled with only shrimps or mussels if you want.

And now, the superstars of the restaurant: the Asian mud crabs! Red Crab Alimango House offers Php295 per 100 grams of crabs. However, the sizes of the crabs will still depend on the restaurant’s daily fresh catches, as well as the minimum weight arrangements. The following photos are with servings of about 500 grams to a kilo.

Among their nine variants, we tried three:

One of The Red Crab Alimango House’s bestsellers is finally in El Nido! Try the satisfying Crab Bee Hon, which consists of crabs simmered in creamy Bee Hon Noodles. The saucy noodles and crabs complement each other very well!

If you love your crabs swimming in a huge amount of garlic, try the Crab Maritess. The dish smells and tastes delicious, not only because it is smothered with garlic, but also because it is simmered in white wine.

If you’re up for a true Asian treat with just a teasing amount of spiciness, go for the Malaysian Curry Crab with kangkong, which is cooked in curried tomato sauce and sesame oil. Try eating this lip-smacking dish without rice and savor all of the flavors involved.

The Red Crab Alimango House El Nido also serves cocktails, coffee, and other beverages. We tried the Lio Sunset, Red Sangria, Blue Crush, and Beat the Heat. These drinks are all refreshing and perfect for long conversations by the beach, whether by day or night.
