When Shake Shack first opened in the Philippines, it took everyone by storm. Lines formed, and a 3-hour wait was the norm during their first few weeks in business. While the lines lessened when they opened new branches, Shake Shack still remains a favorite for many— even during quarantine.

For those who can get their favorites through FoodPanda, lucky you! However, if you’re outside of their covered area, the best way to enjoy their burger is to make it yourself! Thankfully, Food Network has a recipe, and it’s pretty close to the real deal— secret sauce and all. Check it out!

Shake Shack 7 640x424 - Shake things up with this Shake Shack-style burger recipe

Shake Shack-style Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup of mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons of ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon of yellow mustard
  • 2 dill pickle chips
  • 1 teaspoon brine
  • A pinch of sugar
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1 pound of ground beef chuck (80% lean)
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 4 potato hamburger buns
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 slices of American cheese
  • 8 thin slices of plum tomatoes
  • 4 lettuce leaves

Procedures

  1. In a food processor or blender, pulse the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickles and brine, sugar, and cayenne until smooth. Refrigerate until it’s ready to serve.
  2. Form the beef into 4 patties that are about 2 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick. Refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Open the buns and place them open-side down on the griddle. Cook them for about 2 minutes, or until lightly toasted.
  4. Wipe off the griddle. Raise the heat to medium-high and brush with vegetable oil. Transfer 2 of the patties to the griddle and space them about 3 inches apart. Work in 2 batches to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Flatten them into very thin patties by pressing them with a spatula. While pressing down the edges of the patties, let them cook for about 20 seconds. Generously season each one with salt and black pepper. Continue cooking for about 1 to 1.5 more minutes or until the edges are crisp and the beef is browned.
  6. Flip the patties and season the other with more salt and black pepper. Top off each patty with a slice of cheese. Continue cooking for about 1 more minute or until the cheese melts around the edges and the burger is cooked through. Repeat with the other 2 patties.
  7. Spread the sauce onto each of the bun tops. Assemble your burger, starting with the patty, then the lettuce, tomato, and top bun. Enjoy!
