Most people I know only utter “pizza” or “pasta” when quizzed about the first Italian dish that comes to mind.  Francesco’s, one of the newest restaurants in Bonifacio Global City, serves Italian food beyond the menu that we all have been accustomed to.Other than the typical dishes most people know, this new place is worth visiting if you would like to have a fill of your cravings or try something new.

Francesco’s might ring a bell since they already have a branch in Addition Hills, San Juan.

The restaurant’s Chef Patron, Francesco Rizzo, might welcome you at either branch – always with a smile on his face and ready to recommend the star dishes.

Vitello Tonnato, Php580

For our appetizer, Chef served the Vitello Tonnato. This dish is composed of thinly sliced poached veal loin with creamy tuna sauce and assorted greens.

Polipo, Php560

We also had Polipo, a warm plate of grilled octopus over roasted cauliflower puree with salmoriglio dressing. Because the octopus has the right tenderness and the puree complements the grilled seafood very well, we all agreed that we’d come back for this dish.

Le Polpette, Php460

Last but not least for our round of starters, we finished a plate of Le Polpette. The dish is basically meatballs in a tasty tomato sauce with Grana Padano, a cheese that hails from Northern Italy. According to Chef Francesco, what makes this dish special is its recipe which has been passed down for three generations now.

Fettucine, Php480

For the pasta, you can get a fill of your favorites like spaghetti or linguine in basil pesto; but you should also try out their Fettucine in truffle cream, pancetta, and sage.

Branzino, Php1180

Another pasta dish that I found really interesting is the Branzino, which has an oven-roasted seabass with olive tapenade served with Sardinian Fregula cooked in crustaceous broth. I thought Fregula was beans or grains at first, but Chef explained that it’s actually a kind of pasta that originated from Sardinia, Italy.

Francesco, Php560

If you can’t decide on a pizza, try their Francesco pizza generously topped with tomato, mozzarella, fresh sausage, mushrooms, roasted bell peppers, and Gorgonzola cheese. Remember to enjoy it while it’s hot!

Tiramisu all Amaretto, Php360

For a glorious ending, we had two of the most popular Italian desserts. The first one was Tiramisu, a traditional Italian dessert that we all love. At Francesco’s, it is served with a twist of amaretto. Since it isn’t too sweet, I couldn’t get enough of it.

Cannoli, Php360

The Cannoli was also immediately gone from our plates. This tube-shaped pastry dough is filled with creamy ricotta cheese and rolled over candied fruits and pistachio.
