Cinco De Mayo has come and gone. Whether you were hungover on tequila or on unlimited Netflix-and-chill, we’re here to talk about a different kind of fun that you may have missed out on or want to reminisce. A post-Mayhem syndrome if you’d like to call it.

“Cinco De Mayhem (CDM) is not a party, but an experience.” CDM Creative Director, Alexander Diaz, tells us as he points out how some people were walking around and exploring, while some sat with their friends as they soaked in the authentic Mexican culture immersed within the atmosphere of Daang Hari Open Grounds last May 4, 2019.

To give you an inside look at this historic first, we’ll break down what made Cinco De Mayhem more than just any ordinary music festival.

These vibrant neon art installations that surrounded the venue served as the ultimate Instagram haven to backdrop all Mayhemigos’ festival chic OOTDs.

The Ofrenda from the Disney movie ‘Coco’

The founders of Cinco De Mayhem wanted to give the festivalgoers a taste of what it’s like to be in the Disney movie ‘Coco’. With a very accurate replica of the Ofrenda, which is a collection of objects placed on a ritual display during the annual and traditional Mexican Día de Muertos celebration from the film, CDM was able to perfectly incorporate a real piece of Mexican heritage into the festival.

To keep the Cinco De Mayo vibe alive, DJs Euric and Nix Damn P played upbeat dancehall sets that made it practically impossible for us to stand still. Mixing Mexican heritage with Filipino culture, performers such as Kiana Valenciano, Quest, Divine Smith, Deuce and headliners, James Reid and Nadine Lustre, together with the rest of Careless Music Manila, brought down the house with their unparalleled musical performances.

Will there be another Cinco De Mayhem? Let’s wait and see but you can bet we’re already excited!
